One place left – book now to avoid disappointment
Saturday 19th to Saturday 26th May (7 nights)
When most cyclists travel abroad they ride the Alps, Majorca or the Pyrenees. What most cyclists don’t know is that some of the most awesome riding is to be found in the Schwartzwald of southern Germany. Mach7 have already run this event in 2017, which was considered some of the best cycling ever, so we’re repeating it due to demand.
This adventure starts in the heart of the Black Forest, with typical 130km (80 mile) daily rides ascending 2,000m (6,500ft) on the most beautifully paved smooth forest roads in the world. You’ll stay at a rustic farmhouse in the mountains for the first 3 days. With a day off on the Wednesday visiting castles, we travel 3 hours drive east to the borders of lake Constance and challenge ourselves to another 2 days of beautiful riding in southern German alpine foothills. Here you’ll stay in the amazing Allgäu Resort spa hotel, for some pampering. Expect to have climbed 10,000m (35,000ft) in the 6 days. Ouch… but amazing fun, scenery with German sausage and beer!
Travel from UK to Germany on Saturday, which takes most of the day. Ride for 3 days, each day of about 130km (80 miles). Wednesday is the rest day, where we travel to the Allgäu resort hotel for another 2 days of similar length rides, slightly less challenging in total ascent which includes some stunning scenery, including a sausage and beer lunch stop and a view down on the ski jumps. We return home on Saturday, to arrive on Saturday evening.
What’s included:
Transport of your bike, your kit and yourself from the UK to the first hotel in Gutach, within the Black forest. Transfer on the Wednesday (our day off) to Memmingham (3 hours), where we’ll be for another 3 days at a 4 star spa hotel, and transfers home via the Eurotunnel. Includes hotels and breakfast for 7 nights, based upon two sharing a room.
What’s not included:
Meals (except breakfast) and drinks.
Britain Coast to Coast – the long way
Thursday 21st June (the longest day)
Many people do the coast-to-coast in the north of the UK, typically the narrowest part. This ride starts from Aberystwyth on the West coast of Mid Wales over the Welsh mountains to the far East coast at Aldeburgh – and we do it all in one continuous ride of about 24 hours!
It’s 506km (315 miles) in total, with 10,000m (35,000ft) of climbing. All in one day. Obviously the pace is low Zone 1, but this is a challenge that will test your resilience all the way. Bring some extra butt cream!
We start in the town of Aberystwyth at 16.00hrs and head east over the mid Welsh mountains before sunset (at 9.30ish). We then spend about 6 hours riding in the dark, before daylight breaks in the east Midlands. Luckily the terrain flattens as we travel east, slightly saving our tired legs as we approach Aldeburgh late afternoon. We’ll stay the night in Aldeburgh for a well-earned celebration.
We intend to stop for about 20 minutes every 2 hours of riding for food snacks, with 4 x 1 hour breaks for main meals, clothing changes, etc. Average moving speed is expected to be 24kph (15mph). Transport will be provided from and back to our rendezvous point.
Lakeland Leg Burner
Friday 27th to 30th July (3 nights)
You thought the Alps were hard? Now challenge yourself to the Lakes. We’ll be taking in 5 of Britain’s hardest climbs, including the 33% Hardknott Pass (pictured). Ouch!
This one’s not for the feint hearted as we’ll be climbing in excess of 2,500m (8,000ft) per day over some of the steepest terrain in the country, and our routes search out the most challenging, but beautiful roads. Amazing views and descents make the Lakes some of the best cycling this country has to offer, and at the end of July we have a great chance of amazing weather.
For this adventure, we expect you to get yourself there. A relatively easy drive up the M6 sees you in the Lakes at one of our favourite haunts, the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal for the duration of our stay. We’ll use this as our base, with Friday afternoon’s ride being a short teaser of 60km (40 miles) starting at 2.30pm, of what’s to come. Saturday and Sunday we’ll ride typically for 130km (80 miles), with an easy late start ride of about 60km (40 miles) on Monday, before heading home mid-afternoon.
What’s included:
3 nights at the Castle Green Hotel including breakfast, based upon two sharing a room.
What’s not included:
Meals (except breakfast) and drinks. Travel to the lake district, although we may have room in the mach7 transport for a small fee.
Dolomites Grand Tour
Saturday 1st to Sunday 9th September (7 nights)
This is the big one of the season. 6 days cycling in the most iconic location in the Italian Alps, incorporating the ‘must-do’ lifetime climbs. These include the Passo dello Stelvio, Passo di Gavia, Passo di Mortirolo, Passo Giau and Monte Zoncolan. Prepare yourself for 6 days of riding in what can only be described as some of the world’s most beautiful mountains, steepest climbs and highest cols.
We’re here when the weather is usually at its best, hopefully ensuring high 20c’s in the valleys, and descents that don’t require arctic cycle-wear. We’ll base ourselves in two iconic locations in 3 star hotels, with a rest day and travel on the Wednesday for a bit of R&R letting our legs recover from the challenging previous days.
Savour the views, lap up the culture, sample the food and ride those classic Giro climbs to add to your tally of leg busting folklore.
The Mach7 team will be transporting your bikes and gear from the UK to Italy, allowing you to fly down to Treviso airport. Transfers will be available from the airport and back from the two hotels. For this trip we include the transfer of bikes, and you, the hotel (based upon 2 sharing a room) and breakfast. You arrange and fund your own flights, meals and alcohol as the only addition.
Daily rides will typically be 100-130km (60-80 miles), which of course include significant climbs, so will be challenging. We will be having café stops and lunch out on the rides. We will be leading the rides to ensure that everyone gets the most out of it, isn’t dropped and look after the group. Mach7 will carry tools and spares to cover most eventualities.
What’s included:
Transport of your bike and gear from the UK in our vehicle the day before you fly via Stansted to Treviso with only hand luggage. Transfer from Treviso and back to the hotels. 7 nights in a 3 star hotel including breakfast, based upon two sharing a room.
What’s not included:
Meals (except breakfast) and drinks. Return flights to Treviso. (at time of publishing this is £85 return, via Ryanair)
